Bedtime for Bonzo (1951)
Valerie (Lucille Barkley) leaves Peter (Ronald Reagan) when she finds out Jane (Diana Lynn) is living with him. Then Jane leaves Peter when she realizes that he doesn’t really see the chimp as their “child.” Bonzo (Bonzo), disturbed by all this, flips out, escapes, breaks into a jewelry store, and steals a necklace. Peter tries to return the necklace, but is nailed by the cops when they find it on him. In order to thwart the college’s plan to sell Bonzo to Yale University as a lab animal, Hans (Walter Slezak) buys Bonzo. Jane resurfaces and comes to Peter’s rescue, when she has Bonzo return the necklace himself. The cops believe that Bonzo, and not Peter, is the thief. Bonzo now has learned the lesson Peter wanted to teach him in the first place: the difference between right and wrong. Peter and Jane get married, and take Bonzo on their honeymoon.
