The Others (2001)

Grace (Nicole Kidman) and her kids are dead, but don’t realize it. Grace snapped and smothered the kids (that’s why she gets angry when they “breathe like that”) and shot herself in the head (thus, her migraines — and her scream at the beginning of the movie). The “intruders” are not ghosts, but a living family who has bought the house; Victor is their flesh-and-blood son. The old lady is a psychic the family has hired. When Anne morphs into the old lady, that’s the moment the psychic is possessed by Anne. The servants don’t tell Grace that she and the kids are dead because such an abrupt revelation is what turned Lydia (the servant girl) mute. Oh, and yes, Charles (Grace’s husband) is dead too. (He also knows his family’s dead, but he doesn’t tell them either.) We figure all this out when Grace finds the kids being channeled by the old lady at a seance. Grace, the kids, and the servants end up haunting the house forever. (That’s why such a big deal is made about Limbo being one of “the four hells” — the family ends up in Limbo.)
